The A.Typical RPG review

There's a lot of really great potential here, but the game's core is just a mess with a ton of bugs and dreaded gameplay loops. The save system is completely broken and there's a lot of unintentional grinding that slows the pacing to a standstill. Still, there's a lot of promise from this developer, and I'll definitely check out their next game, which looks very cool.

Interesting ideas, poor implementation. The soccer minigame looks promising but very soon the game becomes really really boring and repetitive. There is not much to do and the controls are frustrating. Not worth 2 bucks.

It certainly is atypical. You won't find any magic elves or +5 swords of endurance here. The game takes place in the modern setting of a college campus, rather than a land of swords and spells. Okay, so it's fairly linear. Actually, it's very linear. And the soccer game is really poorly done. But it's a cute little indy title, with good art, and absolutely worth the $1 I paid for it.

Fantastic and truly atypical premise, but extremely sloppy execution. The game takes place in a college setting, where the player has to go through various ordeals in his attempts to get through in one piece. But the controls are irresponsive, the game takes linearity to whole new places and its combat is completely without challenge. The only challenge found in it is surviving the agony it is to play it.

I was actually a little bit surprised by this one, after reading 2 of the other negative reviews.

The game has a feel very similar to the SNES classic Earthbound (music and graphics) with game play elements similar to Rockstar's Bully. The game works as a repeating schedule that rotates through various mini-games: beat the bullies at soccer, flirt with the girl in the disco hall, fight the girl's boyfriend in the gym and cheat to pass the class. I imagine victory comes when the player succeeds at all of these tasks, which are actually pretty fun and kept me going through the schedule for probably 5 or 6 game days.

Most of the rest of the game seems to be a rotation of dialogue checkpoints, such as going to the dorm to see what you and your friends are doing next. When in doubt, there's a button on the bottom of the screen that works like the player's own twitter posts ("quest journal", if you will), using a lion instead of a bird as the post mascot.

There's a humorous level of detail put into the game that makes it feel fun to just be in, such as piles of trash, unique dorm decor, cheesy animations of people dancing, a market maze filled with various game art to explore and a solid soundtrack.

I highly recommend this game to anyone who's a fan of Earthbound or Bully. Just expect a indie-game that seems to have been made by one or two people over the course of a year or less.

The A.Typical RPG review

Well this game was a complete let down. The control scheme is beyond nonsensical, the entire premise of the game makes little to no sense, the graphics are incredibly poor. I could go on for weeks about every fault this game has, and I'd still not do it justice to how much of a waste of money and time this is. I've played some god aweful games in my time but this truly ranks way up there on the "big mistake" list. If you want a good RPG, or a good game in general, something that makes sense, is fun, easy to control, DO NOT get this, there's so many other games out there, games from the long distant past even, which will give you much better value for money and a much better experience overall. My rating is 0/5 but I gave it a single star because I suppose part of me feels sorry for the people who wasted their time making the game.

A very cool and unique take on the genre.

A must-buy for RPG fans or pretty much anyone that is or already has gone through college, there's a lot of fun to be had with this game.
