GAME SUMMARY

Assassin's Creed

Rating: 4.2 (240 votes cast)

Assassin’s Creed is the next-gen game developed by Ubisoft Montreal that will redefine the action genre. While other games claim to be next-gen with impressive graphics and physics, Assassin’s Creed merges technology, game design, theme, and emotions into a world where you instigate chaos and become a vulnerable, yet powerful, agent of change.

The setting is 1191 AD. The Third Crusade is tearing the Holy Land apart. You, Altair, intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict.

You are an Assassin, a warrior shrouded in secrecy and feared for your ruthlessness. Your actions can throw your immediate environment into chaos, and your existence will shape events during this pivotal moment in history.

Key Features

  • Be an Assassin
Master the skills, tactics and weapons of history’s deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy and fight your way to escape.
  • Experience exclusive PC content
Four PC-exclusive investigation missions make the game an even better experience than its console predecessors, including the Rooftop Race Challenge, a race to a specified location and the Archer Stealth Assassination Challenge, where the player must assassinate all archers in a certain zone to help out fellow Assassins.
  • Realistic and responsive environments
Experience a living, breathing world in which all your actions have consequences. Crowds react to your moves and will either help or hinder you on your quests.
  • Action with a new dimension – total freedom
Eliminate your targets wherever, whenever and however. Stalk your prey through richly detailed, historically accurate, open-ended environments. Scale buildings, mount horses, blend in with crowds. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objectives.
  • Relive the epic times of the Crusades
Assassin’s Creed immerses you in the realistic and historical Holy Land of the 12th century, featuring life-like graphics, ambience and the subtle, yet detailed nuances of a living world.
  • Intense action rooted in reality
Experience heavy action blended with fluid and precise animations. Use a wide range of medieval weapons, and face your enemies in realistic swordfight duels.
  • Next-gen gameplay
The proprietary engine developed from the ground up for the next-gen console allows organic game design featuring open gameplay, intuitive control scheme, realistic interaction with environment and a fluid, yet sharp, combat mechanic.

Assassin's Creed review

First of all, the graphic quality is good. When I first tried it last year, I couldn't believe that was a game published in 2007. Especially when I saw Damascus, I just felt like that was it a couple hundred years ago. Next, you just need to enjoy actions and have no item management which makes the gameplay smooth and enjoyable. Last but not least, the story is of course an interesting and innovative one. A RPG fan with less interest in action game like me still enjoys this a lot.

The video game was amazing. Here are the pros and cons that I saw:

PROS:

1. The outdoor environments are huge and all beautifully detailed. You also get to ride on horseback.

2. The buildings, mosques and churches and other architecture are amazingly realistic and I think these along with #4 below "made" the game. These really made it feel like you were in Jerusalem or Damascus. FREAKING amazing. I think this game is a landmark video game just because of the quality of the graphics for the buildings. Even the golden domes on the mosques shine with the sunlight. The game should get an award for this.

3. You will have many hours of fun because of the swordfights. Every time the player levels up, he acquires new swordfighting and combat skills. This makes combat always interesting and there's always something new to try out on your targets.

4. Both the "Bourne Identity" movies and the new James Bond movies have scenes where the hero has the climb walls and jump from roof to roof all with just his bare hands. In this game, YOU are Jason Bourne doing all that stuff. This and #2 "made" this game. When you're jumping from roof to roof and you're being chased by 12 guards while archers are taking aim at you, the feeling is exhilarating.

5. When you are in a city, you have a lot of freedom about where to go and what to do. It feels like "GTA" with horses and not cars. There is even a meter that indicates how "wanted" you are by the guards.

CONS:

1. The "Save a citizen" quests feel very repetitive after you've done a hundred of them.

2. You cannot swim. If you land in the water, you die. Why? If the hero is able to pull off the roof jumping stunts, why can't he swim?

3. You have to pick the pockets of armed thugs to replenish your knives. There is no assassin's store.

4. There is not enough variety in the dialogue spoken by NPCs. It becomes irritating to hear the same thing said over and over by towncrier-type NPCs.

An absolute gem of a game. Unfortunately the XBox version of this I had got a scratch on the disc but I'm going to triply use this to get the value out of it. The premise is fantastic, the graphics are incredible, the scenery is beautiful and the playability is 100%. Definitely in my top 5 favourite games ever.

I am very exigent when it comes to gaming, so I rarely give a 5 stars rating to anything. But this is one of the few who deserves that rating. Assassin's Creed is a very, VERY interesting game. Made my mind a GPU fry for some long days. The gaming experience is unique as you play as an assassin from old times. But not just a mindless killer, you do it for the sake of the world, picking on targets who would "supposedly" do bad things. The main story is very good and makes you want to progress faster so you can unveil more details of what is going on. I could say a lot more things about this game and make this review so long that no one would like to read it, so I invite you: buy this game if you like any kind of games you will certainly love this title (and the sequels).

Enjoyed the game but the quests became repetitious. The dialogue definitely needs more variation but there is enough to enjoy especially if the game is discounted.

Great game with fluid story and gameplay not to mention graphics. Has some minor glitches with climbing and free-running but not so bad as to inhibit your gameplay.

The game is of course the start of a series, the first of which had problems with repetitive gameplay. The story is very compelling and enjoyable. The game has been much improved since but despite its age it is still a great game to pick up and play for a few hours.

The game has solid combat and fluid free-running action all packed together with still-beautiful aesthetics. However, the storyline drags on until you get to the very end where it will fell like it stops abruptly, and leaves you with more questions than answers. The fact that there are only a handful of mission types only adds to the monotony.

Buy this game if you plan on buying its' sequels (for the story.)

Beginning of great series of games.

First part of Assassin's Creed started a revolution in action games. Huge cities, free running and a lot of bonus features, makes Assassin's Creed a must-have game for all true players.

A great game that spawned even greater list of games to come. Assassin's Creed is not just a game. It is a combination of top notch storytelling, action, gameplay and sound. This is the experience where a simple term "a computer game" is not enough. It's comparable both to a well written book and blockbuster movie. If you haven't played this game this is your chance. Buy it!

For those of you familiar with Ubisoft's Prince of Persia franchise this game improves on the Prince's amazing acrobatic skills with the free running system. You play as Altair, an assassin from the Crusade era and your goal is to drive back the Templars who have invaded the "Holy Land". As far as combat goes you are able to wield a hidden blade which allows you to do stealth assassinations, but you can also fight with swords and daggers. In order to explore the map you have to climb tall structures called viewpoints and observe the land beneath.

The first time you start a game you will not automatically begin playing as Altair, but as a common man named Desmond. Do not be alarmed all is explained in the story.

I've had an enjoyable experience with this game and would recommend it to whoever wants to have a bit of fun in the Medieval Age.

Good but can get repetitive

By wilcoxchar posted 5th August 2011

The medieval setting is great and the graphics for the cities are beautiful, but the missions can get repetitive. The story so far is interesting, although I haven't finished it yet.

Great for a short time fun and action

By Adamastorx posted 22nd July 2011

It's no my kind of game, but I liked it. It's fun for a while, for me it gets boring really quickly, because of the repetitive gampelay. It's a "console kind of game", but it plays well on the PC. The graphics are good, great ambiance, but the cities get dull really fast. For the ones like me that sometimes search for a break in the daily work in a easy and superficial game - and to have a rest from all the Paradox games...

Great game. I was thinking on going to purchase straight Assassin's Creed 2 while waiting on the release of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. However, when i saw the price, for a mere extra 4c, i'd get the AC 1 + 2 (29.99 for the bundle instead of 29.95 for just AC 2). So I'd recommend you doing the same if you're thinging on getting AC 2.

I had my doubts about this title, because, me being an RPG fanatic, I prefer being able to interact with the environment and control my character's development. I was worried the lack of this would ruin the game for me, but, after staunch recommendations from a friend, I decided to give it a shot regardless, and boy, am I glad I did!

The stunning graphics, excellent presentation, compelling story and engaging combat more than made up for the lack of RPG elements, and, it also made up for the sole flaw of the game: objectives getting repetitive in the second half of the game.

Had I been able to, I would have given this game 4.5 out of 5, rather than a full 5.

This a great game and wonderful. You control your player and can almost do anything in the city. Very addictive and fun to play I highly recommend it. You can also fight amazing sword battles and it is very easiy to play it on computer not complicated at all. You can climb and see the city in an amazing detail. I strongly recommend it for all type of players it is very nice game.

This game is fantastic! The story is interesting, the visuals are wonderful and the cities live unlike in any other open-world game. The open world is almost a character itself actually. Don't listen to those who say the game gets repetitive. That only happens if you let it. With a little imagination and the massive array of tools and abilities at your diposal, you can make sure the game is a new experience in every mission. The only complain I might have is that the ending is too inconclusive, but hey! Assassin's Creed 2 is already for sale!

Great story very imaginative traveling is kind of monotaness but the rest is interesting and engadging. cold not put it down.

Assassin's Creed review

By Lord Zeon posted 16th July 2009

Assassin's Creed is an interesting third person action game. The game is a great deal of fun for the first three-four missions, and then you realize that you've seen everything the game has to offer, gameplay-wise. For the most part, the game has you doing several of the same tasks over and over for each mission in slightly different setups in the various cities. For me, the only further interest I had was in the storyline; and it's an interesting story, too. If you can catch it on sale again grab it for the story or the beginning entertainment, but don't spring for it at $20.

By Demorde posted 9th June 2009

Assassins Creed is an almost historic third person action game with adventure elements. It features beautiful graphics and unique 'anywhere in the environment' gameplay.

However the actual progression of the game is limited to mainly repeating the same action over and over again to different people and in slightly different places, this leaves the game feeling quite linear and boring at times.

As well, on the PC there are major performance issues, and unless your computer is way above the minimum requirements there will be issues with playing the game.

Over all, it is a pretty game with unique gameplay that is sadly plagued by performance and medicore linearity throughout.

If you are looking for a game to kill time with this is the game for you! A enjoyable game with a vary indepth story! It was rather surprising to me when I first played it. Enjoyable gameplay and mechanics, the usual console game collection side quests. but over all enjoyable on all levels.
