ArmA 2 review

One of my favourite games... Have played this for maybe 2-3 years now with all the DLC, and still it gets played a lot... Always new missions, addons etc... DayZ has been really good fun with a few of us playing.. As has all the addon missions/mods, and ingame missions too.. Very highly recommended for a VERY realistic MILSIM..

A few people I know have issues because they don't quite get the amount of actual realism that is going on in the background, things like gravity, wind, corona, deflection, penetration, object density, etc etc etc... However, it's still lots of good fun :)

Minus the quality of graphics, Textures, as well as the animation + Bugs, This game is so, perfect in my eyes, a perfect example of a Military Simulation, the AI act realisticly human like. Pop a shot at a patrol of soldiers, expect them to take cover and can begin flanking you, It's a game where you have to ignore your previous FPS experiances, Rushing, expecting to see enemies before they see you are two quick ways to a quick death. Majority of the time i find out i die by someone in the woods who i couldn't see, yet they saw me.

Now regarding the Multiplayer, I play with my friends in a total mess around type of map,and learning the controls, of both flying, Driving, boating, and learning the handle of each Tank, Jeep, or even bike is Really fun, Even more so when you figure out how to effectivly, as a team take on a large patrol with one man Manning bombardment support (morters, or MRLS) while the rest storm in in Multiple or one tank at a time, feels so Sastfying. Not to mention the Mod Day Z, Which im sure lots of people know about.

It's the best military simulation you can find. The map is enormous and the missions are very fun. You'll find many options of weapons and many kinds of vehicles and aircrafts. It's not easy to deal with the AI. Multiplayer experience is the best, when the missions are not hacked. But it doesn't take away all the fun you'll have.

A very War simulator providing the user the option to make custom maps mods weapons etc with alot of contet allows you to experince flying an plane or an helicpoter wich requirs surtin training to fly unlikemany other games the game isnt relaying on how many kills you did but about how much of a teamplayer you were and the amount of help you gave your team when they needed it.

Thank you for reading my review

This is the best purschase i've ever done, i did not only get 1 game i got a game with loads of mods and game modes that is awesome i would recomend this game to everyone that like FPS games of any type, and the mod i like the best is Dayz. I recomend everyone that buys this game to try out Dayz, The ArmA 2 OA is needed for Dayz but it is worth it!

ArmA 2 best warfare simulator out there.

By torlid posted 10th August 2012

This game is a warfare simulator that is very realistic in terms of tactics and gameplay! A sequel to the original Operation Flashpoint, and it's a great improvement! It has those epic entertaining stories that people who played Operation Flashpoint perhaps can remember, and its a not only a shooter game, its much more than that. ArmA 2 graphics are good, but not superior to other contemporary games. However, gameplay is superior as ArmA 2 got more of a simulator mode, than the casual arcade mode. As well as featuring lots of weapons and vehicles, you can also command a squad into battle, or even a whole operations with an army! When you begin playing there are some annoying settings like camera bobbing making you dizzy, but this can easily be turned off in the settings. Enemy AI is well programmed, and seems more intelligent than in other games and they operate like teams too, so you must pick your battles carefully and prepare accordingly or you will be wiped out before you even see them. It's not an easymode game, but not too hard either. It just require you to use some tactics and you learn that well by just playing the game.

This is an amazing shooting simulator, it has everything a real shooting game should have. I did not really know what to expect, but i was not disappointed. The game is great, especially playing with your mates.

Buy this game if you even think about it. You will be glad you did.

ArmA 2, hyper realistic and accessible.

By Athan_Immortal posted 28th May 2012

I bought Arma II mainly because I'd enjoyed the original Operation Flashpoint made by Bohemia.

The game actually feels similar in so many ways because despite the vast increase in graphics capability, the voice and interactions feel very similar.

I also bought the Operation Arrowhead expansion while it was on sale which turned out to be a blessing.

One of the things that's great about Arma is that it's open to modding, allowing people to change the game from different rules and scenarios all the way to total conversion.

I was brought back to the game by a mod called DayZ, which changes the game to a zombie survival game. I wouldn't have thought of using it for that, but the game engine seems perfect for it.

Some might compare this to Battlefield 3, and I can see the similarities, but where Battlefield gives you large maps and action, Arma gives you almost a full country to run around in with no loading times.

Highly recommended.

Wow, what a great game. Much better than Call of Duty and Battlefield from my eyes. You need teamwork in this game. It is a lot harder if you try to run and gun. The game overall is realistic but there are a ton of bugs with the game such as the physics. Overall great game.

Fantastic military simulator, can be very interesting and fun, but also can be quite frustrating especially at the beginning until you gain more skill and battlefield awareness.

It's complexity sometimes forms a wall between it and the player, since not most players are attracted to too complex games and most prefer a faster paced simpler FPS.

Overall it is a masterpiece that worth getting.

4/5

FPS with intelligence (and requires patience!)

By sparrs posted 31st December 2011

One of the most detailed and unforgiving FPS military sims I have ever played. This is no ordinary shooter, in fact it is a highly complex simulator that requires patience, not only to learn all the very many commands, but also to complete missions. You cannot expect to go into the front line with all guns blazing; rather, use tactics and stealth to complete your objectives, and look after your squad! One of the most neatest things about this is that if you take a hit, usually its over unless one of your squad can give first aid to help you back up - there are no power or health packs lying around, its up to your squad to administer first aid. Such a neat touch.

Graphics are very good, although you do need a half-decent PC to run it at its best, so be aware about this. Some bugs, but not too annoying and its been patched now so most of the game breaking problems have been eradicated. Good game.

If you want to play a real war-simulation this is the closest you can get in my opinion.

The vanilla-version is awesome but with some mods like A.C.E etc. this game becomes 500% more epic.

I've played many many hours of this games and all the "DLCs" of it and it never gets boring. So much stuff to do and think about, just not run'N'gun, jump down a cliff and do headshots with a sniper at the same time.

I love it.

Buy it, be patient, and you will soon start to love it. If your looking for realism this is the game to get!

Great developers that support the game and patch it regularly even though they are also working on the upcoming ArmA 3.

Great community.

Great player made mods.

Great realism, immersion, and fun.

If your looking for a Afghanistan themed FPS, buy ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead or buy both.

By now, this game is very ironed out and well worth its money. Its feeling is totally different from any other shooter on the market. While I enjoy the occasional COD match, this feels like real combat, people shooting each other at big ranges, firefights lasting minutes without hitting much etc. I love it.

That's not to say it's perfect, but this genre deserves support!

ArmA2 is a great milsim game that is unfortunatly a bit of a let down due to overcomplicated controls and interface. The graphics looks good and the sound is at times amazing. The thing that keeps ArmA2 from getting a better score is the fact that with these contols it isnt much fun to play.

ArmA2 is a military sim, basically it could be described as an extremely detailed FPS, that is however also extremely slow paced. The game is pretty good in terms of immersion and gameplay, however bugs and the sometimes too slow pace make me unable to enjoy it too its fullest when I have to climb the same hill for the 3rd time taking me another 20 minutes, because a script wouldn't fire.

Um jogo bastante original e sem igual, pena não estar suficientemente optimizado para correr de forma mais leve e sem bugs. Mesmo assim vale bem a pena experimentar, não há outro simulador de combate semelhante a este...

ArmA 2 is a very intersting mix of an FPS Shooter and a Military Simulation, the Engine is very impressive and relatively solid.

If you dont expect a CoD-style Shooter and if you can live with a relatively "bare-bones" Singleplayer Campaign mode there is lots of fun to be had in Multiplayer with friends or just on random Servers.

While the Campaign is very basic and you shouldnt expect a ground breaking story it still teaches you all there is in the Game in a better way than a simple Tutorial would do.

Please Note that the Game is insanely complex and more suited for Hardcore Players than the average casusal Player ;-)

There are some bugs here and there, the AI isnt the brightest Light but sometimes does very smart things, most of the Problems are caused by the complexity of the game.

Still, there is lots of Fun to be had and if you enjoy a bit of tactics and realsim more than the average fragfest you should definetly grab this!

Solid 4 stars rating, not 5 because of slight technical difficulties and the abysmal UI.

The definitive Military Sim

By puxili posted 8th September 2011

Just a word of warning: This is a simulation, not an arcade shooter. It's difficult, slow, and unforgiving. If you want another CoD or BF, this is not the right game for you.

But if you are willing to learn a complex simulation and forgive some minor KI issues, you might be rewarded with an excellent military simulator.

The campaign is involving and interesting, the story is, compared to the warmongering, pro-US stuff from the CoDs, amazing. There is a lot of variety during the campaign, ranging from sneaky special ops stuff, to massive tank battles. Graphics are nice, sounds are great.

If you are interested in military sims, ARMA II is the way to go.

Arma II is a great game for those who likes simulators, because thats what it is. In this simulator you can´t play by yourself, you need your squad, and cover is a good allie, often it´s enough with one hit and you are so injured that you need medical attention or game over. The one man army is no option here you need your team.

There is a really powerfull mission editor where you can build simple missions with almost no experince, or real complex ones if you can understand the Arma II scripting.

The time in the editor far exceeds the time in the game if you get a hang of it, it´s really fun.

You can expand the game with free mods, missions, units, islands and more, all made by other users so the gameexperience last for a long time.

I can highly recommend this game for those who want a diffrent wargame where it´s a little closer to real war.

not for the COD fanatics, this game requires real patience and a basic understanding of military tactics.

This is a superb sequel to Arma, and i was glad to see the series return to eastern Europe. possibly the most open ended game i have ever played, no linear game play; complete missions how YOU want to.

This game is definitely worth purchasing, and with the almost unlimited potential for modifications; the playability is never-ending.

Great game, that is what I can say. I started playing this back in the days of Operation Flashpoint.

+Mod(s)(ability)

+Large scale: You can have a thousand units set up fighting each other in the mission editor if you want.

+Graphics are ok.

+BI Studio supports there games very well with patches

+Content: There is a lot to try out in this game.

-AI; yeah the foe & your friends can behave quite stupid.

-Feeling: the controls & movement are different from the average arcade shooter. You have to get used to it.

-Multiplayer: the multiplayer scene is unfortunately not that big and most of the times people play COOP missions while I am a big fan of player versus player missions. The warping of players ingame is annoying as well.

An excellent sequel to OFP (Operation Flashpoint) and ARMA. It is a simulation, not a fps ! (have this in mind when you play it).

Recent patches have made the game almost entirely bug free, so it is really enjoyable now.

Map is huge, some campaign mission will let you to explore it a lot.

Multiplayer is very exiting also, when you can find server with dozen of people to play with.

There are already a lot of mods for this game, including many missions and some campaigns (with ports from Arma and OFP).

A good simulator game any good gamer should have

Refrained to buy this one early due to some mediocre reviews on the initial release. Playing with patch 1.04 now and I enjoy it thoroughly. Especially if you liked the original operation flashpoint from Bohemia Interactive you will digg this one. The believable environment is second to none. Very tense gaming, glad I bought this finally. I had to patch it first with 1.03 and than with the 1.04 patch. While the downloaded version 1.02 worked fine on my box, patching only with the 1.04 patch stopped my install from working. (So probalbly better keep the installer files until you have patched your version.)

Arma 2 is a great game and the modding community helps it staying that way. The modding community are bringing new content to especially the multiplayer part of the game every day! The game (both multiplayer and singleplayer) is still a bit buggy though 2 patches has fixed most major problems. Other bugs will hopefully be fixed in the (near) future.

The gameplay is also much slower and much more realistic than most FPS games - witch is to my liking.

ArmA 2 review

This could have been a 5 or even 6 star in my opinion.

But the game was released before it was even finnished, i doubt they even tested it.

The great thing is the random missions of downed pilots needing rescue, escort missions etc that may show up during game play, if it actually worked.

You get the missions but cant complete half of them due to bugs.

Same with the missions and the support like artillery barrage and helicopter you are granted from the HQ.

There are more support eventually but the bugs prevent me from getting any further.

I do like the fact that you control a small Reconnaissance Team, because you get all these missions but you decide in which order you want to complete them, and some times you need to search for your targets, and that might take some time.

But it do not get boring while searching as the enemy are never at the same place, the AI got their own objectives each time and you might run in to them any where, if your not careful they ambush you, and one grenade later your Humvee is in flames and HQ need to look for your teams body parts all over the village.

The landscape is really well done and its huge, graphics are very good, some of the animations looks a little stiff.

The voices in combat you can hear its patched together and each sentence is in a different tone, but that's because its not scripted so the AI need to find the word that fits with what he sees there and then.

If they fix it, its a great game, now its a pain and i feel a little cheated for buying a broken game.
