A competent shooter that has solid shooting and killing. Some funny parts as well, like the guy who seems to love hamming up his dialogue. It's worth the small price.

It's a shooter, not much more to explain!

A solid, good looking shooter

This game is kind of a favorite of mine... even though it's far from perfect. The shooting is very fluid and the graphics are very good - especially considering it was released several years ago (and probably not made by a very large team). The weapon arsenal is good, although a bit basic. The story is quite intriguing, but is held back by the lacking voice-acting - which is probably the single biggest flaw of the game. Either way, if you're a fan of the genre and are able to look past and forgive some imperfections, you might very well come to like this game as much as I have.

Steer Clear. I have bought quite a few games off gamersgate, most good. Meridian4 is not a wholly bad publisher, they have released some good games. This is not one of them. I bought Alpha Prime for 2 dollars and i still feel ripped off, the visuals arent always terrible, but whenever there is a human character on screen, my eyeballs start melting off. The sound is weak and hollow, the mechanics are annoying, shooting isnt satisfying, your health drops too quickly, the enemies are bland and the voice acting is cringingly bad.

Do not buy this game!

This is a surprisingly fun FPS for the most part. It has enjoyable story (albeit with uneven voice acting and writing), which really made me want to see it through to the end. The difficulty level is a little on the high side, which is probably fine for most hardened FPS fans, but was a little much for me. It also doesn't have much in the way of enemy variety - basically just a bunch of dudes carrying various standard FPS weaponry. There's nothing in particular that really stands out about Alpha Prime, but it remained entertaining the entire time.

Pros:

Good graphical design and decent technical graphics

Frenzied firefights

Entertaining story interwoven throughout gameplay

Cheap (i.e. notta lotta dollas)

Cons:

Crappy vehicle sections (I think this are required in FPS games by law)

Mediocre writing and voice acting mars the interesting story

Unoriginal weapons and level design

Tough difficulty only changeable through cheats

All in all, a good game well worth the time of any sci-fi living FPS fan.

mini games are to hard but still quiet enjoyable

Not a terrible game by any means. Think Doom 3 but with worse gameplay, graphics and weapons. There's certainly enough in here to scratch that FPS itch, but I haven't finished it because I keep getting distracted by other games. Maybe on of these days I'll get around to polishing this one off.

Tried-and-true gameplay elements make up the majority of Alpha Prime. You get the typical 'shoot as many people as possible and solve a few puzzles' element that we’ve seen in other games. You also get a large assortment of guns and a slow-motion effect that we’ve seen become popular over the past few years. Alpha Prime doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, so to speak; instead it offers a straight forward FPS game.

Worth every dollar....

Very weak game. Other than the engine which is rather nice and fluid everything else feels like shooters of 10 years ago trying to be like a scifi version of call of duty.

It doesn't work and what you get is a game lacking atmosphere and fun. Poor animation and weak weapons are just one of the many many problems with the game. There are far better scifi shooters out there and although this only cost 99p (at time of writing) it is that price for a reason.

Probably not the greatest shooter ever made, but for the $1 dollar price tag during the sale, it is well worth it. Provides several hours of entertainment.

The shooting controls are fine, nothing spectacular, but get the job done. The weapons are your basic progression of pistol, shotgun, machine gun, and the game works in a bullet time mode using a drug made from the game's coveted resource.

Environments are rather bland, and the levels themselves tend towards long corridors, there certainly aren't many open areas here, but it's all quite functional. All in all, I'd certainly recommend the game at this sale price.

I got this game on sale for $1.24 and found it to be, actually, surprisingly decent.

The game itself is a pretty basic FPS with the standard arsenal of weapons (pistol, shotgun, machine gun, rocket launcher, etc) and a generic storyline.

What is surprising, though, is that I found that this game actually has better AI than most games I have played (though this might just be because i haven't played many games with decent AI).

The enemies peek out from cover to shoot you, they run from cover to cover while strafing and firing on you, and they retreat when wounded- taking potshots at you as they run. The game is actually reasonably challenging because of this.

The remote hacking concept is sort of interesting, but the game never actually uses it very much, and I don't remember doing anything significant with it for the last third of the game- and not much of significance with it before then, either. You get to hack a grand total of one enemy turret to fight for you over the course of the game, and even then it's only capable of shooting two enemies. There are two points where you have to hack a sort of forklift robot to arrange heavy crates to create or clear a path for you, but both are exceedingly simple. You can sometimes (but not nearly always) hack security cameras to get a little information about the enemies in the next room, and there are (rarely) places where you must hack a broken door control panel to proceed.

The game is also pretty short (10 levels total), but really for a game this cheap it's hard to a complain. The writing is okay but the game ends on a predictable cliffhanger, and given the time elapsed since the game's release, I doubt the plot will ever be properly resolved.

Oh, also, the best feature of the game is that for about two levels you have a stereotyped cowardly Italian sidekick for comic relief.

Is Alpha Prime worth 99 pence? I'd say yes. I mean, what can you buy for less than a quid these days?

The story seems to be a mixture of Half Life and Red Faction. There's this mining planet where you go to help out someone, only to find that some catastrophe has befallen the base and you roam around, killing robot sentries and psychotic, radiation-affected humans, gradually uncovering what happened. I was initially amused by the opening cut scene because the first guy you hear sounds like he's doing a Tom Waits impression. I was less amused by the Italian guy, Paolo, you meet later on, whose dialogue is so corny he might as well just have introduced himself by saying 'Itsa me, Paolo!'

Graphically it looks decent for such a budget game and should run even on poxy graphics cards (mine included). AI is variable, enemies sometimes behave intelligently (or give the illusion of behaving intelligently) and sometimes stupidly. Sometimes you'll open a door to find them already shooting at you. There are ye olde school medikits lying around, plus wall-mounted medical stations where you can go and top up your health (though these eventually run out).

It's pretty linear. You'll clear a room and decide to backtrack a bit to check out a door or corridor you missed, only to find that it was a dead-end and there was only ever one way to go. The 'ReCon' hacking tool gives you a limited amount of strategic options, such as hacking into security cameras to see the layout of rooms up ahead. Oh, there's a bullet-time feature as well. Alpha Prime leaves no stone unturned in its attempts to nick the best ideas from other games.

Alpha Prime was never going to be a commercial hit, given that it was released the same year as Half-Life 2 and Bioshock. If it was the late 90s, it would probably have been impressive, but its dated game design and general unoriginality meant it didn't stand out from the pack. Still, worth a blast at 99 pence, though.

I actually got this game because I love not very (technically) good, low-budget games but I actually did not like this game at all.

The gunplay is just like any other FPS but the voice-acting is just annoyingly terrible, couple that with a basically non-existent story, and mediocre, buggy gameplay and you get a not-so-great game.

I don't really regret my purchase since I got this for probably $1 or so but if it's anymore expensive than that I wouldn't recommend at all.

Alpha Prime is both better and worse than it ought to be. On the one hand, production value is pretty good, and it's cool to see a budget game that can actually get away with taking itself somewhat seriously. On the other hand, shooting and movement mechanics could use some more fine-tuning, the characters are all completely unlikable, and the story tends to get in the way of the action more often than it should. (The game perhaps takes itself a little TOO seriously.)

All-in-all, it's a fun little adventure if you're really starved for some cheap, throwaway FPS action. The price is definitely right, anyway. You should be aware, however, that even in the "bargain bin shooter" genre Alpha Prime isn't really exceptional in any way (graphics maybe). For a few bucks, it's worth knocking around for a bit, but not emphatically so.

Oh, and watch out for basketballs. Just sayin'.

This one's actually worth the sale price, no question. Better than other games selling for more, and even a somewhat funny storyline/dialog to keep you entertained, I kinda just played to hear what my character would complain about next!

I've seen this game around for a while and the price tag seemed very appealing. I was expecting a low quality mindless shooter for the price. I was pleasantly surprised to find a relatively well produced sci-fi shooter. The gameplay is fast and action packed. shooting feels great, and the controls are responsive. The story isn't terrible, and the voice acting is fairly well done. It's hard to have bad feelings for a game that is this price. If you want a good sci-fi shooter with some fun gameplay, check this game out.

This game is as bad as the reputation. I got it for $1.25 on sale here on GG and I really think the money went to GG as a donation, I didn't enjoy any bit of Alpha Prime.

Really GG is good to me and good support so the money went to a great cause, but Alpha Prime is bad enough I'll just say go ahead and buy Red Faction 1 or Red Faction 2, much better action shooters with much better stories and it feels Alpha Prime tried to take the feeling of the first 2 Red Faction games and just misinterpreted it badly. Did I mention Alpha Prime is as bad as they say? This is one case to believe the media.

Alpha Prime is a descend sci-fi FPS! I don't quite get it why it didn't get much attention by the gamer medias.

It is a descend sci-fi FPS, you have all types of weapons you would expect and can carry all of them at once. It is a well balanced game in which you really have to work with cover.

The graphics are just fine. The sound was a bit refreshing for me, well done. But the music, well it's a matter of taste, I think. The same goes for the storyline. It is not too surprising.

Well, it is short. It didn't took me long to complete the game. It can be played through on one weekend.

All-in-all it is not groundbraking but a solid FPS. I would recoomend it to buy, if you are into sci-fi FPS. And the price is nice!

Alpha Prime presents itself as the fairest priced piece of software in the digital distribution world and makes for a great starter title for those whom have been intimidated previously to purchase anything that didn't come in tangible hard-copy format.

The best I can say about this is that the game plays smooth as silk and is an awesome looking FPS with more modern-style graphics. It has also been optimized to run on older systems (my computer is eight years old).

The well voice-acted dialogue is also very well scripted. The story however is not very interesting and seems to mostly be focused on the poor protagonist's bad choice in best friends and wives.

I also think that the game is long enough for those short on time whom would never be able to complete something the size and scope of Fallout 3 but still isn't short enough to feel that you didn't get your five bucks worth.

I give this a 5 out of 5 for a square peg that fits a square hole perfectly.

Alpha Prime is a good FPS though rather short. I completed it in about 2 days of on and off play. It has descent graphics and ran very well on my older rig athlon 64 x2 with an old radeon 3850, and my newer rig I5 with radeon 6850. The story is linier and is sometime predictable but is typical of the genre. The weapons are pretty standard pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, rocket launcher etc. I think one of the best features is hacking into cameras and weapon systems to take out the enemy without direct engagement. The use of oxygen terminals in certain areas of the game is a nice touch and adds to the suspence as you fight and secure an area to move forward without running out of Ox.

Overall a decent game and for $5 is a good diversion.

Alpha Prime is an sci-fi shooter, very similar to Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. by weapon selection, graphics and design. The story is not great, and gameplay does not offer anything new or interesting, but you can clearly see that developers put all their efforts in the game.

If you like FPS similar to Doom 3 and F.E.A.R., and you have some spare money, then you probably should try it.

The game engine is very impressive and even runs on older systems ok. The gameplay itself is nothing new, it borrows heavily from other shooters such as half-life 2, doom 3 and fear. It dosen't really offer anything new but is still an enjoyable experience. The big letdown is the awful story and cutscenes which are simply painful to sit through, they are so pointless and badly written. Still if you don't mind cutting through them you will find a decent shooter in there.

Well I completed Alpha-Prime a little while ago and what to say...It's a nice sci-fi FSP but with a weird story line that could of had gained if exploited a bit deeper.

Graphics are nice and my old rig didn't had a hard time running at a smooth frame rate (although the mars-buggy driving sequence ran like a slideshow...go figure).

Voice acting isn't too bad but some characters do sound somewhat strange. Music may feel annoying after some time for a player who hates techno beats.

One major gripe, its way too short, easy and experienced FPS players will get through in a breeze.

Would I recommend it? Sure, even if it falls short on some points, the low price and nice game-play makes up for it.
