Alchemia PC review

Alchemia is very beautiful, but the game is much less fun than Savorost.

The puzzles are often trivial, and sometimes you just don't want to play them ( one based on music.. ). However graphically it is very beautiful.

Pros

Attractive graphics; charmingly surreal game world; some inventive puzzles.

Cons

Repetitive operation of mechanisms allows little gameplay variety; unconvincing story elements; extremely short.

Cute but short. Not a great story, its short, doesn't have very good or creative puzzles, the one with the stars and music lock is unnecessarily hard. On the bright side, its dirt cheap, it has great visuals and great music. So you could kill an hour or two playing this. It's not good, but it's not bad either.

This is a point and click game heavily influenced by the artsy, off-the-wall Amanita Design games (Machinarium, Samorost 1 and 2, etc.). Essentially every puzzle is visual, which means playing with alien-looking mechanisms and machines to progress through the story. Despite an ugly main character, they manage to pull of a charming visual style rather well. The puzzles can be a bit of a conundrum at times, but it comes with the territory of this genre.

Each area you are in is essentially a single screens (or a panning screen) with a few puzzles on it, similar to the Samorost games. When you progress, you move to a new area or screen. One annoyance is that the game uses a password system for each area, instead of game saves. Each password is a word or two, so they're not hard to remember over a short period of time if you don't want to write them down. While that's a bit of an oversight, I'm not one to complain just because I have to write a simple word or phrase down (I actually add it to the shortcut's comment field). But it's a bit silly.

Nevertheless, the game is enjoyable and worth your time if you like quirky point and click games.

It is a decent atmospheric graphic adventure, that tries to catch and present again Amanita Design's titles spirit. But it doesn't reach that level of inspiration: puzzles are not as well designed and graphically, even bizarre, the style is less fascinating.

A good puzzle point-and-click adventure game. Very similar stylistically to games developed by Amanita Design (Machinarium and Samorost 2). It is somewhat short but still enjoyable.
