Anno 2070 Deluxe Edition review

By rwalby9 posted 29th December 2012

I bought this on a whim because I wanted something similar to the old Total War games. I hoped it would activate on Steam (but it didn't), not the end of the world.

The graphics are nice although the gameplay is somewhat.. awkward? Starting the campaign doesn't really tell you the point of the game or what you're trying to do. It's sort of like a Total War game with easier, small side missions. I don't even know what genre I'd put this game under. That said, the game is pretty fun and there are a variety of game modes you can choose from. Should be an easy ~20 hours of gameplay, more if you find it interesting enough to repeat or play online.

While it is worth noting that it has a drm similar to steam, it is the greatest settlers type game I have played. I got it at the full price, and consider it well worth the money.

Expensive indeed it is however is a really good city building simulator not reaching the extends of sim city or cities xl probably more like tropico or sim cities societies, I loved the concept of futuristic and ecologic buildings, probably a unique concept so far, my dream would be seeing a sim city with this type of eco, tycoon and tech aproach, but this game is very close to it. Besides if you like warfare you also have it with some ships and aircrafts, turrets in small scale, the fact of being able to combine the 3 factions is great and on top of it the soundtrack is great, you wont regreat buying this game.

First of all i was happy to buy it on sale since I will not pay what the gaming industry try to charge for their new games ( unrealistic prices )

After playing it for like 20 houres in 2 days I must say its a good game. Its pretty much just like the anno series but there are more technology and you can even research new improvements ect. But i think the game is a bit more confusing than anno series since you now also have to make some production under water, and research the right stuff to again research the best technology. But I like the idea of 3 factions that each have different ways of life.

Some focus on green tech, some on dirty industry, and some on technology.. But all have the same simulare requirments of food and materials ( different types ). So it can be a bit tricky to produce enough ect.

One other thing i like is that sometimes during gameplay a new underwater island will be created due to vulcaniz activity so even if there are no more islands ect. then you can sometimes get lucky. I also like that you can send your submaries out on special missions and then they come back with technology after a while.

All in all there are alot of stuff to do in a very beautifull inviroment.

I have the feeling while playing that there always are a little more to discover of this game, and especially achivements to accomplish.

All in all I can highly recommend the game to strategy or anno fans. But it can be a little confusing in the start even for veteran Anno fans.

( A hint..: keep your people more than 95% supplied with what they need, els they will not evolved till the next level ).

As you play the game you can also unlock a huge tree of awards ( just like on steam ) so you have some goals to try to achive. But one little nice thing is that there are 3-4 awards that give you a little bonus you can use on your other games frome the same company, so if you like own silent hunter 5 then you can download a special mission, and if you own other games you can get som special gear ect. But all in all I have to mention the DRM. Yes it do work but I really hate having to use systems like steam/EA origin/ or Ubisoft launcher system. I think I have 5-6 different software programs to play my games now.

The gaming industry should lower their prices with 50% and stop all the crap DRM and copy protection. AND stop all the shitty DLC addon packages... what is wrong with simply releasing a game that have everything included.... ( they think only about money )

Anno 2070 is a great game, and I just got it on a sale for just $20, so you should hurry too and grab your copy! You are in charge of building a new civilization in diverse islands, so if you like games like Sim City or Civilization you will love this game as well. Combat is limited, but it is not the point in this game. Graphic is just beautiful, and the system is very deep and will keep you busy for weeks.

Great game, if you like city building or resource management I would give it a go. Would be 5 stars if it wasn't for having some of the worst DRM out there.

One of the best city building + resource mangaing game there is out there.

The game combines a very interesting yet challaneging campegin, with a story that movies and books just can't handle.

The game have a very unique multiplayer, which is affecting ALL the players by their choices, if there will be too much poluting islands, I persume there will be a smog in all islands from start and lower fertility...

The game got alot of explore, go and buy it...Now!

This game is pure epicness to people who like the building and managing aspect of strategy games . Even though it has a steep learning curve, you will eventually master and love the game. I've never played an Anno game before. Though to truly experience the beautiful graphics you will require a fast computer. Great game, hours and hours and hours of gameplay. 5/5

As the previous Anno games, the basic idea is the same: colonize islands and get enough resources to sustain the population and increase the profits. I must say that the new 'idea' of the future really help to become a bit more interesting the game and being able to build two different societies (ECO's and Tycoon's) is very welcome.

I liked the game, the new challenges and the online mode (multiplayer, world events, etc.) I liked the previous games and I liked this too, the bad side could be that even with all this new features, the game is the same. So, my personal opinion?:

- If you love the Anno saga you can buy it and experiment with the same idea of previous Annos but in different scenarios

- If you like but you think "pse, It could be better" or "it's no bad but at the end is a bit repetitive", enjoy the Anno you have because this will give you the same impression.

Anno 2070 Deluxe Edition review

This game is perfect for the person who, like me, prefers building and managing an economy to endless carnage. You have to be prepared to defend yourself against renegades and pirates, but battle is not the focus unless you want it to be. The other thing I love about this game (so far, anyway) is that the player doesn't get thrown into an irreversible tailspin if something goes wrong. There's plenty of opportunity to correct a mistake or oversight. For example, I overlooked the fact that I couldn't grow vegetables on one of my islands after I'd already put the production chain together to build "convenience foods." Though I had a factory setting idle for a few minutes while I located someone willing to part with some veggie seeds, once the island was fertilized production started and I didn't go bankrupt in the process. That's not to say, though, that it's easy to the point of being boring. There's plenty to do and plenty to figure out. Anno 2070 is deep without being complicated, and the pacing is perfect for someone like me who wants a diversion that's not as stressful and complicated as my day job.

One other thing: My machine just barely meets the minimum specs (Dual Core Pentium, 4GB RAM, old graphics card) and the game works (and looks) just fine so long as I run with minimum eye-candy across the board. The high-detail graphics are spectacular, but they will tax a low-end machine. I just want others to know that the game IS playable doesn't seem to choke on the minimum hardware specs if you're willing to throttle down the graphics detail.

This is truly a gem and a must-have for anyone who loves city building and resource management games.

I absolutely love the Anno series, and this latest addition didn't let me down a bit. It's fun, beautiful, and stable - Everything I look for in a game. Quite a bit more content than 1404 as well. I've been very disappointed in Ubisoft lately, but this makes up for it quite nicely. I haven't tried the multiplayer out, but if its as stable as the campaign or large continuous games 2070 gets a 5/5 from me :)

Great game. Similar to previous Anno titles, but with three races playable at the same time in a game, and with some access to a second world layer underwater (which is really only used to generate a limited range of resources).

However, Ubisoft support is not at its peak, and there are still some serious flaws in the game. Most can be avoided if you miss some scenarios, so hopefully a patch is coming soon.

Great game, so long as it doesnt crap out on you.

Impressive! When i bought Anno a few days ago i was not too sure it was worth the 54.95 i paid for it and although i still think paying over 50 EU for a product is too much, i can say i have already got 10 hours of gameplay off the game and i am just getting started!

I would say the game is a little like Sim City and Civilization (more like the later), but with a setting in the future. In other words you colonize an island and you build it up slowly by carefully planning your resources. You end up meeting new players (they also have an online multi-player option or you can play against the computer), which you can compete with or work together.

What i liked most in comparison the the above games is the product options. Which means that you need to colonize various islands or trade with other players to get all the resources needed to progress. So if you cannot grow tea on your island, you will need to immigrate to another island to get the tea seed, without that you cannot upgrade some of your buildings and hence you stagnate in your progress, so there is always a challenge ahead.

I have been playing geopolitical sims for some time (20 years to be precise) and i highly recommend this one.

Anno Strikes Again.

I played Anno 1701 and i played many, many, hours of it. Anno 2070 i think i like even more. I thought at first the game was going to be biased against the Tycoons. However once playing i find i like them better than the ecos. This missions are kinda straight forward but the cuztomization options are pretty neat.

Never played anything from the Anno game series before, but I am happy with what I see. I am a sucker for games about futuristic society and this one has a great feel and story. The game play reminds me of Age of Empires (which is a huge plus). Graphics look great and I love the fact that you can actually vote on issues outside of each game you play (makes up for the fact that you have to have an internet connection to start it up initially). Definately one you should pick up if you are into strategy and/or sci-fi

Anno 2070 Deluxe Edition review

Anno 2070 is a great game. It has tons of achievements, scenarios, and a continuous mode that will keep you busy for hours. This game lets you play at your own pace and there's rarely any rush to do anything you don't want to. You can relax and build a huge city, or you can conquer. It has the Ecos, which are green, environment friendly slow to advance, and the Tycoons, which are greedy, drunken, fast food eating pigs who require efficiency at all costs, even if the environment takes a toll.

The soundtrack is amazing and is a great reason to spend an extra $5 on the deluxe edition. The Artbook and poster are cool additions too. Comon, it's not like you're spending $20 or $30 extra for a useless halo helmet that you can't even wear!

The graphics are great and the game runs great on my hardware. I have a Radeon 5850 with a Core i7 Quad and 8 gigs of ram. The game runs great on highest quality. I had to bump the post processing effects down but this doesn't change the way the game looks, it looks great either way! If you want a massive addiction, GET this game! The demo doesn't do this game any justice, so you have to play the full game to truly enjoy it.

Don't buy this game on Steam, they will probably just remove it the same way they did with Anno 1404. That's why I bought it on Gamersgate and I don't regret the purchase. Game downloaded fast and installed in no time.

Great game, awesome visuals/graphics, "GREAT" with 3D glasses. As with most UBISOFT titles, you can acquire extra content for your accomplishments by using your reward points to purchase the extra content; ie. items, maps, units, scenarios, etc. For the people that don't know, its kind of like the Experience/Blue Coin reward system here on GamersGate. I'm not going to give you any more of a clue here, as I might find myself playing you in the future, and I play to WIN. See you on the battlefield looser, Haaaaa

Anno 2070 Deluxe Edition review

Another ingenious invention by the brilliant minds at Ubisoft and partners. Known playstyle with lots of new addition.

The Eco soundtrack includes some positively haunting melodies from the great Dynamedion composers, linking history and future together in a great way.

The Tycoon soundtrack reminds a lot about the dark, dank industry of Howard Shore's compositions for Saruman in the Lord of the Rings.

What if? What do we do today?

In short: Epic, disturbing, hurting and healing.

Classic! 5 stars!
