Anno 1701 The Sunken Dragon review

By DaVihm posted 15th Aug 2011

The expansion adds something to the original game and I did give it 4/5 (original game got 3/5) but it still could not keep me playing more then a few times. I recommend buying the expansion to if you have or want to buy the original game but I do believe that there are better games to buy.

The "Sunken Dragon" adds some new missions located in the Far East to the original game "Anno 1701". As i said in my review to it, the missions were a little dull in it, which unfortunately doesnt change much with this expansion. If liked the missions in the original games and are desperate to get new ones then you should take a look at this. Otherwise i would just stick to the sandbox mode in the original game , which is clearly the highlight of the game. All in all i think this expansion doesnt provide enough new content for its price.

Anno 1701 The Sunken Dragon review

I love Anno 1701, but it has to be said that this "expansion" has very very few new features, it can hardly even be called an expansion, especially at the price of €29..

If you, like me, most enjoyed the continous games in Anno 1701 (skirmish, sandbox, non-campaign or multiplayer) you will have VERY little new to find in this expansion..

There are a few new AI faces, some new music, a meteor strike catastrophe and a world editor. Thats it. Seriously.

The new campaign is very well done though, but for this to be called an expansion rather than a mission pack, is misleading and frankly i wish i still had those €29 to spend on something better, since i rarely play the campaigns in such open-ended games as this one.

The world editor is good too, but with the super high quality of the random maps (as always), it isnt really needed, unless you want to goof around.

All in all, even if you are a hardcore Anno fan, this expansion offers very very little of interest, it should have been priced at €15 or so instead, as this is nothing more than a mission pack with a map editor slapped in, something most games offer post-release for free..
